Ann Arbor Folk Festival - Carolina Chocolate Drops
I know a number of people on my flist are in the Ann Arbor, Michigan, area or at least within spitting distance.

Run, do not walk, to the Ark for the Carolina Chocolate Drops.

ladyat and I caught them last night at our local (3 blocks away) music venue. Some magnificent old-time stringband stuff, loads of fun and even with pan pipes - you know, those traditional old-timey bamboo pipes. Really.

I've heard really good things about this band. They were at National Folk Alliance a couple of years ago and Rowan Corbett was just going on and on about them.

And if you do want to go, contact me first. I have great tickets I can't use for both nights! http://huskiebear.livejournal.com/26488.html

I saw them at Winnipeg Folk Festival in 2007. The female, in particular, has an awesome voice. Have you heard me sing "Little Margaret"? Not sure I've sung it anywhere you were.... In any case, I learned that from them.

Stunning. When someone asked me if any one act jumped out as being wonderful, their name fell from my lips.

Not quite the Ark, though. :-) They were playing Hill Auditorium -- about ten times as many people.
