That's McCain to a T. I'm still bitter about being fooled by the campaign he ran in the 2000 primary, but I'm a lot more upset that he's getting covered as a "straight talking moderate" in this campaign.

I wish interviewers with the balls to actually confront McCain (and everybody else) on their hypocrisy actually existed outside of cartoon-land. Or, more accurately, I wish that network shows that candidates can't avoid would demand it of their interviewers, and not let politicians get "news" coverage from interviews that won't actually put them on the spot.

I have to admit that I wish the McCain of 2000 had been real. But we have to live in the world we've got.

Can we teleport the McCain of 2000 to the present? I'd be likely to vote for him. The current one.... not.so.much.

I feel your pain. For a moment, I actually allowed myself to think, "Well, if McCain wins it, at least it won't be as bad..."

But the moment slipped away.

As I keep reminding my "if [nominee] doesn't win, I won't vote" friends: It's not just the president we elect, here.

We are also choosing who gets to name all the executive branch appointments throughout the country. Who gets to name the next SCJ. Who gets to write the next Executive Statements. Who brings in the entire cabinet.

No, not the candidate who wins the office. Oh, he/she will play a part, of course. But not without significant input (Read: pressure) from the PARTY.

Apropros of absolutely nothing in particular, and certainly disconnected totally from the post to which I'm replying...Hi! :-}}}}

We got y'all's card last Giftmas season, and I saw where y'all were back in Danbury *G*. I hope y'all got ours in return, but you can pretty much toss that Nashville address. If we can stomp our feet hard enough using NAFTA, Bryon/lupinebear and I will soon be living in Canada. Oh, and we're married, too, as of last Summer. :-}}}}

Anyway, I'm off to add you to my flist here. Oh, and laydat, too. I'll probably be making at least one more round-trip between Toronto-ish and Nashville, and will probably be coming down I-69 to I-65. If it works out, I'd love to swing by and show y'all my six-and-a-half-year-old-long beard. :-}}}}
