Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow.

Northwest can fly me round trip to Gatwick for just over $400, Heathrow for another hundred. I am sorely tempted. (And even more tempted because it would be just before I drop off of Elite status, with its mileage bonus.)

I've never gone to the UK con. Can you give me some basics, like recommended flight dates (the price above is for fly-out-Wednesday, fly-back-Monday), and the best way to get from London to Basingstoke?

The general SF meet in London is on the Thursday. http://news.ansible.co.uk/london.html

UK cons tend to run until later than US ones - a lot of people will stay over until Monday, and there will probably be a filk circle until the early hours.

If you arrive before Friday you could ask around for local fans to put you up. Try the FILK_UK mailing list. http://www.filklore.com/filk_uk.phtml

There are trains from London Waterloo to Basingstoke. See the travel notes at http://www.contabile.org.uk/hotel.html

You'll liiiike it... :)

Get to Basingstoke by train: that's how we go. Dead easy. http://www.nationalrail.co.uk for train schedules; you can probably buy your tickets right at Gatwick: there's a train station right at the airport. I'm nearly sure there are good trains from Gatwick to Basingstoke. Don't bother with Heathrow: it's large and icky and if Gatwick is cheaper, that's definitely the way you want to go.

I'll let Mr. B explain the ins and outs of flying to England; I only did it a few times before I realised I'd rather live here than fly here!

OOOh great. Shouldn't you have a look for special offers to Filkcontinental as well (nudge, nudge...)
