Red Sox Win Series
How can anyone say it better than that?

In the hazy days of summer well over 30 years ago, I picked up my first Carl Yastrzemski signature Louisville Slugger and headed to the plate for my first game in Little League. I sucked, but Yaz didn't. The rest of the team, well, there were lots of problems, but there was always next year - and, after all, in the National League I had the Cubs to cheer for ...

In 1986, ladyat and I talked on the phone for hours, and in October we watched the World Series while doing so, reacting at the same time to the BoSox ups and downs and downs. The name "Bill Buckner" (yes. I said it!) was not uttered in our home. Last year we added Aaron Boone to the "Bucky Dent" list.

In a way, I feel sorry for Yankees fans (and current Braves fans), who can't really experience the highest high of their team winning. A loss is shattering, but a win is only what everyone expected.

Everyone talks about 86 years, but few of us have been waiting that long. Most of us have been waiting a lifetime, though.

Props to billroper and other Cardinals fans, sorry it wasn't your year. As Tony La Russa said, it's a great collection of ballplayers who just didn't manage to get the pitch in that was needed or get the hit that was needed. Let's hope Jeff Suppan doesn't become to the Cards what Bill Buckner was to the Red Sox.

In the meantime, I'm campaigning for a national holiday today.

When Aaron Boone was added to the Bucky Dent list, was he given the same honorary middle name as Bucky F. Dent?

Hey, win some, lose some.

Overall, I'm happy they got to the Series.
