Separate Firefly Entry
Second episode was almost as good as the first, somewhat-hackneyed-plot to the contrary. I think the secret is that there are no bones at all being made about these being "classic" Western plots, rehashed and recycled with a few twists.

And that special Joss Whedon touch ... why not have a force-field tavern window! Sure saves repair expenses, doesn't it?

One more down and looking forward to more!

my favourite was the unexpected twist at the end, when you THINK that Joss is setting us up for the big recurring villain who will chase them for the rest of the season, and then...

The most amazing thing about Firefly is that it started out good and just kept getting better and better. :)

Which was exactly the point that every review I read of Train Job totally missed! I almost envy you... watching for the first time... sigh.
