Who ARE these people?
Time for a LJ Newbie Whine.

Before I start, let it be known that I understand both the allure and the security of a private persona, one that allows you to be something of a different person than you might be in the Big Blue Room.

On the other hand, I'm new at this and trying to add friends to my list, and I'm getting a headache trying to figure out who everyone is! Isn't there a translation table somewhere? A Rosetta Stone? How about just a divinely inspired dream of some kind?

There are some people who are either public or are using very public nicknames. Thank you. There are other people who have posted recently enough that I can match them to the specific people I know. Thank you, too.

For everyone else - man, some of you people are weird.

And now I know how to use cut text. Nyah.

If you click on the little person next to someone's LJ name (as in filkerdave) it will take you to their user info page. Which isn't always helpful, I'm afraid.

But yes, we ARE weird!

Best way is to sit down with someone familiar with LJ nicknames and your friends and just ask them to go through all the nicknames of people you know. :-) I'm still in the process of connecting some nicknames with the people.

Boy do I understand that problem. I have people who have Friended me and I still can't figure out who they are. Good luck...

You know me, of course. I'm Rush Limbaugh.

I knew you were on drugs all weekend!

Rika, the bardling in the woods, is obviously, bardling :) *hugs*

...and yes, I'm still wondering about a few lj-usernames too...

I've heard that some folks put up pictures of themselves which can sometimes help... assuming they are more honest about their photos than about their userids. :)
I found I had to keep a little text file of ids and names so I can remember who is who. As there are over 400 people who list filk as an "interest" and my file has about 30 names on it I still have a long way to go. :)

Heya! Just found you. Welcome.

You should be able to guess who I am, seeing as I was braiding a fair bit at GAFilk.

Yes, and my LJ id is pretty non-mnemonic:

tnatj=dave alway

If you can't recognize, or can't view, my picture, then my user info page should be helpful...

Oh how very neat to find you on LJ too!

I'm Maya, Greg McMullan's wife, who usually sits on the sidelines crocheting and listening, but has performed one of my two lullabies for you - I think at an FKO. This icon is my glamour shot from many years ago, and what I wish I still looked like, but may be at least close enough for recognition.
