First Doubles Win
I've been playing doubles with the neighborhood tennis team for a number of years now, in the spring and fall, but - mostly through lack of playing in a given year - never managed to win a match.

This year I decided to put some priority into playing tennis, not least reason being that I could use the exercise. The team hired a pro to give us a course of four lessons, which were absolutely fantastic.

The result up to yesterday was that I've been playing with a consistant partner and we've been playing our opponents very close. We had a chance to win last week but I pooped out due to being a little out of condition after being lurgy for a couple of days.

One would think that we would have had little to no chance to do well this week, because I was in this little smash-up on Thursday which had left me rather stiff, we played a match at a position higher than usual on Saturday, and then played yesterday in order to "pre-play" a match that was scheduled during Spring Break when most of the teams will be out of town.

The result was as expected on Saturday - we lost by a rather lopsided score although we were well in contention for every game (as I commented during the match, you hate to work so hard to get to deuce every time and then never win the game). On Sunday we played for over 2 hours in the first really hot day of the season on new courts (no shade at all) and managed to wear our opponents out 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

That's my first win in organized tennis since high school.

Apt unto to the day. Thankyou for putting it so eloquently into words. =:o}
