Appliance Installation Woes
New washer and dryer delivered. In spite of careful measuring, they simply do not fit once stacked - this is because the stacking kit pushes the dryer a full 4 INCHES behind the washer, leaving absolutely no room for the door to close even if we could manage to hook up the things.

We have 30 days (yay, Sears) to figure out what to do before we can no longer get an exchange, so here's the plan.

1) I am pulling the stacked units (oof) so I can get into the laundry closet.
2) I am going to build an access hatch from the crawl space into the back of the laundry closet (yes, it will open INTO the crawl space) in order to facilitate hookups and such when the units are all the way in)
3) I will confirm if the units can be stacked with a bracket that doesn't push the dryer back so far (or, alternatively, whether the dryer can be set on top of the washer without the bracket, which is how the old units were set up)
4) I will either move the pieces back into the closet or call Sears to come get them in exchange for a different set (will cost restocking fee plus additional delivery charge, no help for that though I'll try at least to get the restocking fee waived).

Wish me luck.
