Jack Is In the Horse-pital
Our poor old puppy managed to poke himself in the eye sometime Labor Day Weekend. When we noticed his eye was closed we called the emergency vet on Labor Day and he thought it was conjunctivitis - he called in a scrip for antibiotic ointment and we scheduled a follow up for this week.

Though better (Jack could keep his eye open after a couple of days of treatment), the eye didn't really heal up very well - still really goopy and covered over.

Took him for the follow up today, and after a bit of an ordeal getting his eye numbed and stained they looked at it and found a place where it got poked and is bulging. They have to suture that spot to strengthen it, then suture his third eyelid closed over it to protect it while it heals. Jack doesn't like his face touched, so it's a general anesthetic for him.

He's getting up there (11 or 12), so that's not a cakewalk. We'd been putting off having his teeth done because of the need for it, but this is more important - he could lose his eye if it isn't treated.

We're going to go ahead and have them do his teeth since he'll be under anyway.

Think good puppy thoughts tomorrow afternoon.

I would need a general anaesthetic as well, I totally agree with him about not having eyes touched. Hugs to all and hope he gets better.

Coming in late, and definitely sending good wishes, to Jack and to you guys! By now, I suppose, I can ask how things went?

If he's still pending (tho' I suspect all's done by now), it might be worth the vet calling an ophthalmologist about an anti-biotic infused contact lens over the area and under the flap. (Yeah, I'm kind of a belt-&-suspender type when it comes to nasty eye injuries *smile*)
