Hi There - It's Been a While
Quick summaries:

Things are not moving in re: the Atlanta house. ladyat spent a week stripping wallpaper and painting 3 rooms. The comments about the house being "dated" have gone away, but still no offers. She'll be back in Atlanta for an extended period around the first of May and will do at least one more room then. We finally got refinanced, which dropped our monthly outgo by almost $500. Until ladyat gets some regular income coming in or we get this albatross off our necks (or both), we're in a bit of a bind. Not where we expected to be at this point.

I've come to the conclusion that moving from one stage of life to another is signaled when the doctor stops telling you that you shouldn't eat certain foods and starts telling you that you can't eat them. I've hit that transition, though my doctor hasn't named specific foods as yet. I'm very overweight, moderately high bad cholesterol, pre-diabetic blood sugar levels, and very high triglycerides. I've expected such a diagnosis for a while, but being on cholesterol medicine kind of hit me a little hard. Modifying the diet fairly significantly, upping the exercise level (though I still wish I could find a regular tennis match) by trying the 10,000 steps per day program - we'll see what happens. I'm now taking many pills per day (allergy, vitamins, stomach acid preventer, and cholesterol), which is something I thought I'd never want to do.

On the other hand, life here is still very good. We've had a successful house filk and ladyat has hosted a couple of parties of various kinds. We're starting to work on the landscape - one thing about spring coming at the middle of April is that I'm actually ready for it instread of bemoaning the end of winter. We've added a few more pieces of antique furniture (I bought ladyat a spinning wheel but chose not to buy the full-size loom at the same auction). More of the house seems organized than not at this point.

We'll be traveling a lot in May - back to Atlanta, then up to Winnipeg for Keycon, then down to Orlando for Oasis. We need to figure out what to do with the dog and cat; never mind that they won't recognize us when we get back.

Hello again!
Looking forward to seeing the two of you at ConTata a whole lot. Sorry to hear about the health stuff. I've had diabetes for eight years, but my cholesterol and triglycerides are only a little high; Louie has been trying to get me to run around the block on a daily basis, with 50% success, and there is no question that exercise will help all these things. Good luck finding people to play tennis with.

Re: Hello again!
Bill and Brenda were not on the Contata membership page... (I just checked) If they are coming, that would be good news and make a good sounding convention even better.

Re: Hello again!
Brenda called Louie and me for Interfilk to offer us the Interfilk GoH spot. It never crossed my mind that Bill and Brenda might not themselves be there. Hey, Bill and Brenda-- what's the truth on this?

Re: Hello again!
We weren't going to be at Contata, especially now as money has gotten pretty tight.

Interfilk directorate and convention affiliation are separate - we called on behalf of Interfilk, not Contata. Interfilk directors have been known to wrassle over who gets the privilege of contacting the upcoming guests...

Re: Hello again!
:( Oh well... Can't win them all. I will be @ Contata running a sound board or two.

Sending good thoughts about the house and about health issues. Hope everything works out well for both of you, Bill! Take care of yourselves, ok? Looking forward to seeing you at a con some time soon.

Seconding all but the last of that, though I do hope to see you again at one next Feb... *hug*

Well, you've got a must-exercise-now buddy right here.

I've not been diagnosed with anything; in fact, I am incredibly healthy for the obesity I carry. But I do have pain issues -- the latest being bursitis in both knees.

So, exercise and calorie counting are now a part of life. I'm not regular, yet, but I intend to be. This is for the rest of my life.

So, you're in good company. Here's hoping we both get to wellville together.

Good to hear from you again. When we had problems selling our old place I took on 7 kg.

I sympathise.

I've been wondering about the Atlanta house, but thought that asking might bring pain, so thanks for the update. Sorry the news isn't better. A thought popped into my head that I feel a little funny about articulating, but it just might be helpful and if it's not I don't think it will damage our friendship. You've said before that the Goddess guided you to move to this house, so she may be making you hold onto the old one until the right person can move there. Could it be that through your coven or other connections down there, you're supposed to find the right person and then do what it takes to make it their home instead of your problem? I don't know Atlanta, but when I visited, your house there seemed like a desirable one.

Good luck with the exercise!

Is there a house filk announcement email list to which I could be added? (If I received it and forgot because I'd been planning to go to a concert this past weekend anyway, sorry....) Anyway, I would love to come visit and sing with you folks sometime.

I'm on that exercise thing right along with you...I need to part company with that about 30% extra mass I'm carrying around.

Truly sorry to have missed the housefilk - had a scheduling conflict. Something about a Seder..... Hopefully next one!

Give my love to LadyAT, please.

Oh yeah. Maybe we need to start a 'somewhat overweight hoosier SF fan' support group. Of course we'd probably need to rent conseco fieldhouse for our meetings.

All the *best* people have unsold albatross houses, y'know! (Yeah, mine hasn't sold, either).

In other news, we should probably talk soon about exporting small boys to see The Big Pig...

Has Brenda managed to spin on her new wheel yet?

house filk!
I definitely want to know when the next one is, and I know Phil and Maddie would love to tag along. Maddie loves live music (hint, hint!). Still bumming that I couldn't do the library concert in December, and hoping to make some music with y'all sometime in the near future!

Next time you have a housefilk, please don't forget to invite me and mine!

I definitely relate to the financial woes, and the pains of carrying more than one mortgage. You totally have my sympathy! I am hoping that the real estate market bounces back soon, for everyone's sake! *HUGS*

Check out my website to read about a safe, fast, viable solution to your health/weight issue. www.teresapowell.tsfl.com It has done absolute wonders for me. I've lost 9 lbs in three weeks, and expect to be at my goal in another month or less. The added bonus is that my own personal health issues are improving tremendously. Give me a call if you have questions.

I love you!

Triglycerides too high?
Too bad about those high triglycerides. I've read that they are a big risk factor. You may want to check out this website www.lowerhightriglycerides.com. Lots of good free reports.

Good luck!
