Status Report and "7 Things Meme"
The gig on the 9th went swimmingly, we now have confirmed a paying gig there for the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day - more to come on that. It means we also have actual St. Patrick's Day free, so if anyone in the Indy area knows someone looking for a band, point them our way.

I spent the last week in Dallas on business (sorry, typsygypsy and vfoxtrot, we were scheduled 24x7 so I didn't get a chance to hit a pub or visit with you), getting back at 11 PM on Valentine's Day (<sarcasm>I love cheap-ass companies who need you to spend 7 hours getting from Dallas to Indianapolis</sarcasm>). That gives me this morning to catch up on everything, pay the urgent bills that have due dates prior to Monday, and pack for Capricon (yeah, I know it started yesterday...)

Meanwhile, here's my 7 Things Meme as tagged by mysticfig:

a. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
b. Tag seven people to do the same.
c. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".

1) I will not wear a battery-powered watch. I prefer manual wound watches but have recently discovered the world of self-winding watches. I just think some things are silly to spend (somewhat toxic) resources on. Besides, I like to hear "tick tick tick tick" instead of "hmmmmmmmmmmm".

2) I type very fast and VERY LOUDLY. This comes from having to write sports columns as a teenager on an old Royal manual typewriter. Having never taken any kind of typing class, I developed a sort of 3-finger-1-thumb method that serves me very well. However, when on conference calls I have to mute my line before typing even when I'm wearing a headset.

3) I learned to play guitar rehearsing and playing with a band in high school called CABAL (the initials of the members - I was the "B"). We ran the gamut from expert (C played magnificent guitar and dobro, as did one of the As, and L went on to the beginnings of a professional career before she was murdered by a violent boyfriend) to rally bad (that would be me and the other A, though we improved dramatically by the time we finished). The drawback is that to this day - over 30 years later - I can't stand John Denver songs.

4) I seldom manage to get the crown caps for beer bottles into the trash can. They end up on the counter or in my pocket. ladyat hates this.

5) Contrary to the stereotype for most US SF Fen, I am in general a sports fan. I am specifically a fan of the Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Colts, and Chicago Cubs. I am not a sports encyclopedia nor do I tend to know much about players or events outside my teams. Because of my enjoyment of sports, I have become a fan of cricket (which is fleetfootmike's fault, really, it is), but the time differences make it very hard to follow here (I did see a lot of the ICC World Cup coming from the West Indies, though.)

6) I have no artistic talent of any kind and am in awe of those who do. The closest I will come to visual arts will be in modelling landscapes and background for the model train layout I hope to start Real Soon Now - and even then I'll likely be begging help from other people. I think I just don't have the patience for it.

7) I love being organized but have great difficulties getting (and keeping) things that way. I have grand plans for organizing my office (but no space), my workshop (but no storage), and my bedroom closet (... ok, managed to do THAT one). CDs and books get alphabetized once a year or so but never stay that way for more than a week. On the other hand, I will take extra time when tearing down live sound equipment or campsite in order to make sure everything is in exactly the right place in exactly the right box.

As far as tagging goes, since this meme goes around and around and around I can't remember who has already done it and who hasn't, so there may be duplicates - and, as always, no obligation of any kind is incurred by being on this list.

Psh. Would've been nice to see you but I know what it's like when you're on a schedule and you have multiple friends in the area. I'll wait for the Next Big Atlanta Seisiun.

8) Did you know you have a clone working the Amtrak line from Vancouver, BC to Seattle (and points south)? hsifyppah and I have BOTH seen him!

You look great in your little cylindrical hat, I must say.

WHAT? No Auto Racing?
Bill Suttonbedlamhouse on February 16th, 2008 10:55 pm (UTC)
Well, I'm not so much a Racing fan as an Indy 500 fan. I pick up racing info (that's Open Wheel racing, not Bumper Cars) by osmosis but don't watch or listen to anything but the 500.

Of course you're into (some) sports. You're a Hoosier! How could you have possibly avoided it?

(You ain't seen fanaticism if you've never been in Indiana during high school basketball season.)

I am the only Hoosier in my entire family tree, but I escaped at age 3, so I didn't get as much of the fever. On the other hand, the only sport I know anything about -- and during the Bulls' four-peat days the only one I would not miss -- is, yep, basketball. (During the 3-peat period I even kept my fridge stocked with beer to drink during the games when -- apologies to you and SCS_11 -- I don't even like beer!)

Nature or nurture?
