Backtrack: OVFF Anniversary
In case people weren't aware, OVFF was ladyat's and my 20th anniversary (And they said it wouldn't last 20 years. No, they said you'd get 20 years. Shaddup you mouth.)

I surprised ladyat with a full-page ad in the program book, and we scheduled a reception in the Con Suite just to be able to say thanks.

We didn't expect any presents - we hadn't expected any presents at the wedding, either, but birder2 gifted us with a pair of musical note pillowcases with our names on them, which we still use. At the reception, the concom (led by Emily who may-or-may-not be on LJ) presented us with a scrapbook containing pictures taken by Lowell (also may-or-may-not be on LJ) of our wedding.

They thought this would just become a nice little souvenir of the reception, as it had places for people to sign and make comments.

But.

We hadn't had any pictures of our wedding, except for one of all of us standing in our various regalia. We didn't know any existed.

After 20 years, there were beautifully crafted photographs - not just snapshots - of two very young (and foolish. Shaddup) people going through this wedding - with pictures of billroper and folkmew singing for us and pictures of Buck performing the ceremony. Pictures of the cake. A picture of the two of us with my mother (I don't have a lot of pictures of my mother. She hated having pictures taken.)

We teared up almost immediately upon going through the album. It is one of the most precious things we've ever received.

Thank you, thank you, thank you OVFF concom.

Hadn't realized you two considered OVFF your anniversary. Were you married at the con, or did you just meet there? Either way, congratulations on getting through two decades of a marriage that's had more than its share of sorrows as well as joys. Many more years together may you have. (/yoda)

We had our wedding at the con. It ended up not being the legal marriage, as ladyat's husband suddenly balked at signing the divorce papers. Since we'd gone through all the hassles and had people coming for the wedding, we said to heck with it and had the ceremony anyway (we modified the final line so Buck could say, "Insofar as it is possible at this time, I pronounce you husband and wife.")

Technically, our legal marriage date is Dec. 15, 1988, but we celebrate Oct. 31, 1987. OK, we celebrate both when we can - like ladyat would let me get out of that... (*gdrvvf*)

When we finally made it legal, we were very tempted to send out announcements saying bedlamhouse and ladyat "are pleased to announce that they are now breaking only 6 of Georgia's 27 sex crimes laws", but we decided discretion was probably better than humor in this case.

>>When we finally made it legal, we were very tempted to send out announcements saying [we] "are pleased to announce that they are now breaking only 6 of Georgia's 27 sex crimes laws", but we decided discretion was probably better than humor in this case.<<

Probably a wise call. My only remaining question is why OVFF's people waited two whole decades to give you the silly thing.

They didn't know we didn't have pictures of our own.

FWIW, kitanzi actually consider "OVFF Weekend"[1] to be our anniversary, even though we got married in August three years later[2].

[1] Not a specific date. Just whatever weekend OVFF happens to be on.
[2] This year, we both forgot our wedding anniversary this year -- not so much that we forgot the date, but it was 3pm before we both realized that day was in fact the date in question.

Oh, that's beautiful, I'm welling up with tears here at the beauty of it ...

congrats to you both.

I know I'm a broken record, but it keeps coming to mind every time I read something on your LJs.

I really, *really* love you guys.:D:D:D

Congratulations. Now I'm triple-sorry that I didn't make OVFF. When we come for a Party House sing, I'll make sure to ask to see it.

Had no idea I met you when you were relative newly-weds. You seemed so ... right! I mean, in the sense of people who know each other so well they simply go through life in a choreographed dance of ease, at least so it seems to those watching.

And yes, what a beautiful gift, and what a beautiful story.

Goes with the beautiful couple.

Again, congrats!

I've only known you guys for six years now. That made it somewhat strange seeing those photos. You had more hair then... (So did I, but that's another set of photos.)

But, yeah. Congrats, and here's to another 20 happy years...

B & B,
I was there videotaping the weddding that OVFF. Gave you all the only copy as you headed out of the room. After doing a video project for my sister who wed earlier that year, I did not want to go through the rounds of 'can I get a copy' again. Hope you all did not lose it or mis-place it. Happy Anniv. anyway!!!

As I recall, the ceremony was also being 'web-cast' or whatever on what may have been called the internet by then. Anybody got transcrips of that on an old floppy disc?

Yep, we still have the videotape. We have the Rocky Horror Muppet Show videotape, too.

I'm not aware of anyone transcripting the CompuServe feed, but since Howard pretty much typed it in from a copy of the wedding transcript the only thing that would be interesting to have would be our comments when we went to the computer as part of the reception line.

So glad you liked it. ;-)

Happy anniversary!

More Photos...
Bill, it's my understanding that Lowell has more photos (negatives?) of the wedding.

I had no clue you didn't have many pictures of the occasion or I would have done this earlier!

If someone on concom hasn't already done so, I can get you contact info for Lowell.
