Today Is Windows 7 Day Dunh Dunh DUUUUUUNH
The iso having been writ, the re-install disks for heavily used software having been gathered, the final step is the off-line cloning of the C: drive in case of an emergency restore being required.

Then, the upgrade shall commence.

I have been too frustrated with the newer technologies with which my WinXP has not kept pace, such as dual-layer DVD drives (a must if you are backing up, oh, say, a MONTH worth of mp3s...). I've also been pretty happy with W7 on our travel netbook, plus getting ladyat a new laptop for her upcoming birthday that is W7 pretty much pushed me over the edge.

Email will still be accessed, as I can get to that from other systems, but LJ and Facebook don't tend to get covered until this PC is back up and running.

DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! AOOOOOOO-GAH! AOOOOOOO-GAH!

... as the in-house RH Fedora web and network servers snigger to themselves ...

I did the upgrade thing a couple of months back - from Vista to 7 Pro. Considering I was doing an upgrade for which "there is no direct route", it actually went very smoothly, and I had a lot less trouble getting things reset that I thought. (I used the option to backup/restore that the Windows upgrader provided - I just needed _lots_ of space on a spare hard drive)

I like Win7 a lot... and this is coming from a diehard Mac geek.

I have a virtual Win7 box at work and it's been an absolutely fabulous machine. I hope your upgrade goes smoothly and you're back up and running soon!
